Where Are You Now
1995
Everyone has dues in life to pay
A grim toll for the reaper man to find a better life
But like a fool I left you standing at the tollgates of the crossroads
And never even thought about it twice
Until now
I still hear you laughing in my dreams
I feel you reaching for me when I sleep
And I wonder
Where are you now
I still hear you laughing
Where are you now
In the hour of your passing
Where are you now
Memories like a novel in the corner of my mind
I pass their dusty cobwebbed covers and their broken binds
And like a fool I stand here drowning in a sea of my nostalgia
Thinking they’ll just fade away with time
Until now
I still feel your breath upon my cheek
My slumber brings you deep inside of me
And I wonder
Where are you now
I still hear you laughing
Where are you now
In the hour of your passing
Where are you now
This is one of my favorite songs in the way it came together musically and lyrically. Whenyou read the lyrics it actually puts off a more cryptic vibe than it should. This is not about someone dying. It's about having dreams about them and making you wonder about them, missing them.
