CRAFTING MINES
My Personal Realm Journey

I know, I know! And the answer you are looking for is .. well, non-existent. I have been a gamer girl since I was a kid. Board game? Oh yeah! Table top RP? Get my dice! MUDD? Plug me in! And here I am an old lady STILL gaming! Back in the early 90's a game called The Realm came out. This was my first time playing a visual MMORPG. It was a cartoonish, 2D game with frames. It was slow and awkward and I LOVED IT! I met people on that game that I still talk to this day! "Hi BILL!", (aka TWIG). In 1998 I was asked to participate in a "trial run" of a game that was about to release called "EverQuest". I played that game faithfully (some might even say addictively (and they wouldn't be wrong). That game was F***ing magical, and it will always hold a very special place in my heart. There have been
countless other MMORPGs that I have played over the years that I have very much enjoyed. However, EQ will always be my #1.
Until this stupid game! And to it's creation I give Notch at Mojang studio a dual middle finger salute. This sandbox time-sink creation is both wonderful and horrible all at the same time. I avoided playing Minecraft for YEARS. YEARS!!! I have my two daughters to blame for this ... my two ADULT daughters. They roped me into playing one New Years eve. Ring in the new year with a fun game, they said! Fun, quality family time, they said! And so we did .... each one of us sitting in our own home ... each one of us mining and crafting (well, they were mining and crafting. I was completely LOST in some cave for days) ... talking to one another over group chat. It was hilarious, and fun, and a much needed respite during the covid crisis. A game I said I would NEVER play because I hated the square, pixilated graphics, I am still playing today! Sometimes I even get a visit in my realm from a daughter or a grand-daughter!
I think sometimes that "gaming" is so much more than just playing a game. While I do believe that it should be done in moderation, like any hobby, it does offer more than just the game itself. You can establish friendships, learn patience, learn to think outside of the box, express your creativity, and so much more. Spelling, Math, Physics, and so on. While I cannot say this is true for every game out there, I can say that for Minecraft. This little blog-ish type page here is all about my personal experience with the game. The creativity, the family shenanigans, the belly rolling hilarity, and those dang frustrating CREEPERS! BOOM! Have fun!
