"The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance."

When Love Is Fake
Early 80s
Rainbows of many colors I keep deep within my mind
Are just reflections off the water that vanish with the sands of time
For each time I try to touch them, like glass they seem to break
But after all we must learn when love is fake
And it’s the strings of emotion that we all must pull some day
And it’s the power of devotion that we all must learn to save
The unicorn of snow-white, he soars into the sky
Do you think if he was full of freight that he’d get by on life
Dreams that pass behind me are just made of fantasy
They’re full of clouds with silver linings of love and mystery
And each time my heart does reach one, it is my heart which is forsaken
But after all we must learn when love is fake
A song about my relationship with my father. He and my mother divorced when I was young. My dad was a decent man, but our relationship was strained. I don't accredit him with all of the blame in that. When you're a kid though, blaming is easy because you can't see the big picture. This is a good example of me not seeing the big picture.
