"The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance."

What I Wouldn't Give
Early 90s
I can still see him sitting there
That Pittsburgh wind in his long brown hair
On my moms back porch with a guitar in his hand
The melody he played, meant to steal my heart away
Was so full of love but I just didn’t understand
What he was saying with his song, now I wish I took the time to hear
Oh, what I wouldn’t give to hear him play like he did for me that day
Reaching out his heart the only way he knew
Now how am I to let him know that his melody still grows
No words could say what his music seemed too
I love you
Every now and then I drive by his old house and wonder why
I ever let him leave without saying how I feel
He’s out there somewhere chasing dreams, I miss him so much at times it seems
I let go of the only love that was truly real
And I wonder what he’s doing now, do I even cross his mind anyhow
What I wouldn’t do to see his smile again
Oh, what I wouldn’t give to hear him play like he did for me that day
Reaching out his heart the only way he knew
Now how am I to let him know that his melody still grows
No words could say what his music seemed too
I love you
Coming home late the other night
I had to pull over from the drive
From an old familiar song playing on the radio
I just couldn’t believe my ears, and the melody brought me to tears
Bringing back those memories of long ago
Can it be after all this time, that Im still on his mind
And I’d do anything to see him once again
Oh, what I wouldn’t give to hear him play like he did for me that day
Reaching out his heart the only way he knew
Now how am I to let him know that his melody still grows
No words could say what his music seemed too
I love you
I have a friend named Matt who is an AMAZING guitarist. I met him in New Orleans back in the early 90's. He was stationed there with the Marine Corps. He was my boyfriends roommate. This song is written in a "love song" perspective, however, the story is just not that sweet. Matt loves his guitar and music. That is what the song is really about. I always saw him becoming famous.
