Louisiana Rain
Early 90s
Look at me standing here with make-up running down my face
Standing here a fool, too dumb to come in from the rain
Its been a long time now darlin’, since I felt the power of love
And the words you’re saying hit my face like a glove
Look at you standing there with love melted in your eyes
And I just don’t know what to say to make you realize
Its nothing that you’ve done, God only knows I feel the same
But baby when you heat me up I need that cool Louisiana rain
Take it slow and easy like a breeze down the river
I need to keep my senses, your love makes my poor heart quiver
And I don’t want to dive in so fast that I’ll never be found again
When you love me like you do give me that, cool Louisiana rain
I used to date a man that lived across a fence from me. Sometimes at night, once my daughter was sleeping, I would walk out to the steps in front of our apartment door and play my guitar softly and write. He was out of town for work and I was missing him a little, but in a good mood. When I sat on those steps I could see over the fence to his appartment. I imagined that he came home early and jumped the fence to see me. That is what started the lyrics. I was still learning how to play blues style on my guitar. I started raining lightly and BAM ...the song came right out.
